Tom Thomson (1877-1917)

The rugged, unkempt natural scenery of Ontario was a major source of inspiration for Tom Thomson. He used broad brush strokes and a liberal application of paint to capture the stark beauty and vibrant colour of the Ontario landscape. Canada’s Group of Seven painting movement officially began upon the death of Thomson, which spurred his artist friends to pursue his vision.
