Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a post-Impressionist painter of Dutch origin whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold colour, had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. He struggled with mental illness, and remained poor and virtually unknown throughout his life. Vincent van Gogh died in France at age 37. Since his death, he has become one of the most famous painters in the world. Van Gogh’s paintings have captured the minds and hearts of millions of art lovers.
